Getting to Know Your International Contacts

Mariam Wright Edelman, President of Childrens Defense Fund, spoke on Children and Poverty in America. In the podcast Miriam spoke about the fate of our children who live in poverty during these times. We as women have to speak up for our children. Edelman said that it's not a money problem that we have but what we do have is a profound value and priority problem and we also have an absence of voice problem. Mothers, women gotta raise our voices and say that it is not right to cut children in order to give rich people tax cuts, it's just not right. Be a voice for our children and let's put them first.

Children represent 24 percent of the population, but they comprise 34 percent of all people in poverty. Forty five percent of children under 18 years of age live in low income families, and one in five live in poor families (Scharberg,K. 2013).
