Ideals Chosen from the NAEYC

Category 1: Ethical Responsibilities to Children
Ideal: To support the right of each child to play and learn in an inclusive environment that meets the needs of children with or without disabilities. The significance this ideal has to my professional life is that this is a goal that I plan to implement in my everyday affiliation with the children in my classroom. I do not believe in discrimination and I believe that every child deserves to be afforded the same opportunities with or without a disability.
Category 2: Ethical Responsibilities to Families
Ideal: To develop relationships of mutual trust and create partnerships with the families we serve. Relationships are very important in every aspect of our lives. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, relationships are the active ingredients of early experience. I believe if we as professionals build healthy relationships with our children’s families we will in return have healthy relationships with our children therefore allowing our children to be open and more productive in whatever they decide to do.
Category 3: Ethical Responsibilities to Colleagues
Ideal: To establish and maintain relationships of respect, trust, confidentiality, collaboration and cooperation with co-workers. Having this type of ethical responsibility helps us as professionals to build professional relationships. These relationships will allow us to share resources with each other to give children the best learning experience possible. I believe that the ethical responsibilities toward children and families are the same attitudes and behaviors that support a child’s growth and development. They are also equally important as the ethical responsibilities toward our colleagues.

I love how you connect the way we treat and behave with our colleagues to how we treat and behave with children. I also think it is so important that we lead by example when working with young children and remember they are always watching how we handle every situation. :)
